Everyday heroes: ordinary people saved two lives in Budapest!

Two lives were saved by ordinary people in Budapest this week. Luckily, these people knew what to do in case of an emergency. Incidents like these point out how vital basic first aid knowledge really is.

A man saved a woman’s life in a kindergarten in District XVIII. RTL Klub reports that Tibor Vég was about to pick up his son from kindergarten when he was asked to assist an unconscious worker from the secretariat. The kindergarten staff had already called an ambulance and started cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) with the dispatcher’s help before Tibor arrived. As the staff was aware that Tibor works as a scrub nurse (a nurse who handles sterile equipment while assisting a surgeon during a surgical operation), they immediately asked for his help.

A 50-year-old woman experienced sudden cardiac death (SCD), which is caused by loss of heart function. Tibor checked, but she had no pulse, her circulation had stopped. He continued doing CPR, and he successfully restarted her circulation by the time the ambulance arrived. The woman was transferred to the hospital in stable condition.

Tibor was very nervous, never having done CPR on a human being before, hse only ever had to do it on dummies. The woman was being treated in the intensive care unit for a couple of days. Her condition was getting better; she is currently resting at home.

Another life was saved at Nyugati square.

Hvg reports that workers of the National Tax and Customs Administrations were conducting an audit when they spotted a man having an epileptic seizure at a near bus stop. The officials put the unconscious man into the recovery position and kept him safe until the ambulance arrived.

The man was transferred to the hospital.
